Although it does still feel pretty wintry there are definite signs that Spring is on its way…there are buds on the trees and the evenings are getting lighter. Before we know it, rain or shine, we will be feeling the need to blow those cobwebs away and head out for some fresh air. For some, the urge for true isolation and solitude, for others economic factors and for many the sheer enjoyment of eating alfresco will result in the humble picnic being the choice of sustenance for the outing.
Now whatever your choice for picnic fair, be it sandwiches, pizza, pastries or crudites, we believe that the question of what to package it in should deserve equal consideration. For too long the ease and convenience of cling film and tin foil has led to them being the most popular options. The quantities of these disposable materials that are thrown away and awareness of our ever-increasing landfill problem has long been a pet concern of mine. I was not however completely satisfied with using plastic containers as an alternative. We constantly had ‘divorces’ between lids and bottoms and sometimes the children couldn’t even open them, not to mention the storage issue! I also had concerns about the toxins in some plastics used.
Then on a family camper van holiday in Australia, I came across a product range that seemed to answer my needs. A food safe, coated fabric that closes fast with Velcro in either a simple wrap style or a roomy pocket that can be washed re-used time after time. After trialling them in the van, our whole family were hooked.

On my return to the UK, I set-up Ecosnackwrap as the sole UK Distributor of 4MyEarth (Australia) products. Rebecca Hurst, founder of 4MyEarth, and I, both believe that small changes can make a difference. By using these wraps and pockets instead of disposable packaging we can reduce the amount of waste that is sent to landfill each year.

Ecosnackwrap’s products come in two sizes and styles in a variety of attractive designs suitable for adults and children and a range of different food types. They provide a complete picnic solution and best of all are re-usable. Simply wash by hand or machine and re-use the next day. You can enjoy your picnic lunches out with the added bonus that packaging waste is not damaging the earth. As Laura Hitchcock of ‘Littlestuff Parenting and Lifestyle blog says, “packing a lunch becomes a strangely satisfying experience”.
Ecosnackwrap products cost from just £4.99 and are also available at Juicytots.
